.WAIT FOR IT
With a guess of $3800
Enjoy your internetz.
The shop estimate as of now is $4000
Thankfully, as !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! cleverly pointed out, the actual cost is free.
Is it just me or does $4000 seem like alot. I mean, thats Miata money.

I want a breakdown of hours to repair and especially the material costs.
my estimate based on not really looking at it is as follows assuming the bumper and parts are okay.
labor: 14 hours @ $45/hr $630 sanding bumper removal painting polishing etc
materials $250 paint primer sealer sand paper masking tape clear coat polish wax grease remover etc
$1260
Maybe I am not good at this.

Less than my current repair. My trans just went out. $5500 will be my bill. Ugh. Not to mention someone backed into me and i have to replace my rear bumper cover now cause of a crack.

But thats a transmission. This is just the Bumper and rearhatch in a economy car.

It needs a brand new bumper and rear hatch.

Technically my Mk5 Jetta 2.5L is an 'economy car'. It just happens to have Eibach suspension, BSH Cold Air Intake, and 2.5 inch cat back.

A new hatch? It looks barely damaged.

It's possible to do $4k worth of damage to any car.

Looks can be deceiving. It was actually bent and will no longer close.

Could be warped in a way that causes it to not ever close right. I had a door like that.

Yeah but for that little? I know it's a brand new model but I know my old car wont cost me 4000$ for the same damage.

He's got a warped hatch that needs replacing. I think we're beyond a mere fender-bender here, even if it doesn't look that way.
Body damage costs are less about how new/old the car is, and more about how man man hours the shop will spend fixing it + part sourcing difficulty. FYI; older out-of-production cars will have harder to source body panels, making detachables like doors, hatches, hoods, etc., more expensive to replace.

They had to completely replace it.

Oh...I just judged by the pictures and saw the final price. That explains it. And I understand for a classic that doesn't have readily available parts to cost as much or more. But for a old car where parts are readily available, it might be different. But when stuff warps...I agree, it's gonna be costly for any cars.
